Learn More About SpaceClaim
There are a number of ways in which you can learn more about
SpaceClaim. Choose the one most convenient for you:
A Quantum Leap in Engineering Productivity
SpaceClaim empowers engineers and industrial designers to be more
creative and deliver products to market faster. Throughout the product
development cycle, SpaceClaim makes it possible for engineers to
easily explore their ideas and problem solve in 3D, reuse and quickly
edit models from any CAD system, and simplify models for analysis,
prototyping, and manufacturing.
SpaceClaim Engineer enables innovation and improves
efficiency throughout the product development cycle.
Optimizing Engineering with 3D Modeling
The rules of product development are changing. Smart manufacturers
are realizing that by realigning product design activities, they can
guarantee that final testing will validate expected results.
By empowering engineering with easy-to-use and powerful, 3D
conceptual design tools together with access to CAE, engineers can
optimize their designs before committing them to the labor-intensive
detailed design process in traditional CAD.
The untapped opportunity for most manufacturers is that CAE isn’t
involved until late in the product development cycle - when the fixes
are often very costly. Up-front simulation avoids last-minute
compromises.

Getting the Job Done in Prototyping and Manufacturing
SpaceClaim lets anybody modify a CAD model, regardless of the
constraints and history that can get in the way of finishing a
project. Make last-minute edits to prepare parts for manufacturing and
rapid prototyping.
 | Change face offsets to suit your manufacturing process |
 | Add or remove rounds and draft as needed |
 | Reconstruct underlying surface geometry for surface machining
and packaging |

Manufacturing Engineering
To design fixtures, manufacturing and mechanical engineers receive
models from a variety of CAD systems, but these models often do not
meet their needs. 3D models may also be difficult both to decipher and
to work on directly. SpaceClaim solves these problems with our
3D
engineering design software solution.
SpaceClaim’s model-importing functionality enables engineers to
work on the 3D model directly without having to learn a
feature-based programming system. Manufacturing and mechanical
engineers can now work directly on the translated 3D models they
receive with natural, straightforward modeling and editing
capabilities.
They may use the model as a reference for designing tooling or
reference it for CNC machining and CMM inspection applications. A
sheet metal part designed in SpaceClaim can be converted to a flat
pattern that a manufacturing process can reference to create a
finished part.
In this example, the model (Valve Body) is used as a reference for
designing tooling (Indexable Chuck). The models are then referenced
for CNC machining and CMM inspection applications. Manufacturing
engineers can convert a sheet metal part designed in SpaceClaim to a
flat pattern, which a manufacturing process references to create a
finished part.

For pre-programming, the engineer places the fixture,
with or without the design model, in a drawing setup sheet. SpaceClaim
brings the solid models directly into the drawing so the engineer can
create important views that communicate essential information to the
machinist. Engineers can also use 3D markup.
This illustration shows the drawing views, which indicate the
orientation of the setup for the operator. The table created in the
detail drawing gives the operator instructions for setting up the
job.
