Optimizing Engineering with 3D Modeling

The rules of product development are changing.  Smart manufacturers are realizing that by realigning product design activities, they can guarantee that final testing will validate expected results.

By empowering engineering with easy-to-use and powerful, 3D conceptual design tools together with access to CAE, engineers can optimize their designs before committing them to the labor-intensive detailed design process in traditional CAD.

The untapped opportunity for most manufacturers is that CAE isn’t involved until late in the product development cycle - when the fixes are often very costly.  Up-front simulation avoids last-minute compromises.

Enabling Creativity to Foster Innovation

SpaceClaim is the only 3D direct modeler designed from the ground up to be the fastest tool available for concept design and 3D problem solving.  Easily visualize and evaluate designs.  Achieve new levels of creativity and product innovation.

bulletQuickly create new designs and easily change them later
bulletUse groundbreaking 3D modeling tools
bulletReuse almost any 2D or 3D CAD file
bulletHave complete control over assembly structures and bill of materials

SpaceClaim in Industrial Design

SpaceClaim marries the simplicity of a surface modeler with the robust power of solid modeling. Use SpaceClaim to create quick assemblies for surfacing in your favorite surface modeler. Or, turn surface models into solids, adding rich detail.

bulletSpaceClaim’s direct solid modeling is the fastest way to create forms, basic concepts, and massing studies.
bulletDirectly create and edit surface curves, even if the surfaces weren’t created in SpaceClaim.
bulletCreate beautiful anti-aliased layouts of your concept and use HyperShot integration to explore textural choices and aesthetic ramifications.
bulletInteroperate with your favorite surface modelers and enjoy direct copy-and-paste integration with Rhino and MOI.

Getting the Job Done in Prototyping and Manufacturing

SpaceClaim lets anybody modify a CAD model, regardless of the constraints and history that can get in the way of finishing a project. Make last-minute edits to prepare parts for manufacturing and rapid prototyping.

bulletChange face offsets to suit your manufacturing process
bulletAdd or remove rounds and draft as needed
bulletReconstruct underlying surface geometry for surface machining and packaging
bulletCreate scale models by adjusting size and change wall thicknesses as needed
bulletQuickly check draft and create cores and cavities
bulletCreate bend-compensated sheet metal flat patterns from imported designs

Manufacturing Engineering

To design fixtures, manufacturing and mechanical engineers receive models from a variety of CAD systems, but these models often do not meet their needs. 3D models may also be difficult both to decipher and to work on directly. SpaceClaim solves these problems with our 3D engineering design software solution.

SpaceClaim’s model-importing functionality enables engineers to work on the 3D model directly without having to learn a feature-based programming system. Manufacturing and mechanical engineers can now work directly on the translated 3D models they receive with natural, straightforward modeling and editing capabilities.

They may use the model as a reference for designing tooling or reference it for CNC machining and CMM inspection applications. A sheet metal part designed in SpaceClaim can be converted to a flat pattern that a manufacturing process can reference to create a finished part.

In this example, the model (Valve Body) is used as a reference for designing tooling (Indexable Chuck). The models are then referenced for CNC machining and CMM inspection applications. Manufacturing engineers can convert a sheet metal part designed in SpaceClaim to a flat pattern, which a manufacturing process references to create a finished part.

For pre-programming, the engineer places the fixture, with or without the design model, in a drawing setup sheet. SpaceClaim brings the solid models directly into the drawing so the engineer can create important views that communicate essential information to the machinist. Engineers can also use 3D markup.

This illustration shows the drawing views, which indicate the orientation of the setup for the operator. The table created in the detail drawing gives the operator instructions for setting up the job.
